E.ON Energy for the German DS SMITH paper mill
The client is DS Smith, one of Europe’s leading paper and board producers, located
in Aschaffenburg, Germany. The project was built and operated by E.ON, one of
Europe’s largest operators of energy networks and infrastructure.

The challenge
DS Smith needed auxiliary boilers to provide backup and supplementary steam to the plant’s main source. They needed to ensure a continuous and reliable steam supply to maintain high production levels. Any breakdown or malfunction could lead to production interruptions, which can be costly.
Solution advantages
Although the auxiliary boilers were not the main source of steam in the plant, their backup and supplementary role proved to be critical in guaranteeing a continuous and reliable supply of steam, minimizing the risk of production interruptions. This enabled DS Smith to maintain high production levels while ensuring excellent energy efficiency and significantly lowering emissions.
We developed a tailor-made solution, proposing two SG 3000 series auxiliary steam boilers. They are capable of producing 30 t/h of superheated steam at 185°C.
